Ever wanted to try a kneeling chair, but not quite sure how comfortable it would be, or how exactly it works? We’ve had several calls lately asking those very questions, so we figured it was time for a little kneeling stool education! The purpose of a kneeling chair is to reduce lower back strain by dividing the burden of the weight to the knees as well as the buttocks. Though, it hasn’t been proven that these stools are the best solution for back pain, it can sometimes help, depending on the person.
A proper kneeling chair will open up the body angle by lowering the angle of the lower body, keeping the spine in alignment and the sitter properly positioned. The benefit of this position is that if one leans inward, the body angle remains 90 degrees or wider. Ideally, most of the body weight should bear on the buttocks, with some of the weight bearing on the shins.
